Fundraising
We need to raise just over £4 million per year to sustain the work of Hope House Children’s Hospices. We endeavour to raise this money in a variety of ways including:
Charity Shops
The shops receive donated goods such as clothing, bric-a-brac and many other items from the public and sell them at a reasonable price. The teams in our 13 shops are led by a friendly manager and assistant manager. Volunteers can help with any aspect of work including; serving customers in the front of the shop, sorting and pricing the goods or helping design window displays. There is a lot of work to be done so no-one is ever bored! Shops organise nights out and fun events where paid and volunteer staff socialise together. If you're interested in volunteering in your local shop we'd love to hear from you - information on how to get in touch is at the bottom of this page!
Friends Groups
These are groups of dedicated people who get together to raise funds for Hope House and Ty Gobaith. They are supported by their local fundraiser but are independent and manage their own events. Why not join your local group or if there isn't one near you then why not consider setting up a group of your own? See the fundraising page for details of your local group.
Help out at an event
Hope House has stalls and stands all over the region throughout the year. If you have less time to give or don’t want to make a regular commitment this is the Volunteering Opportunity for you! You can commit for as little as 2 hours once a year! And still do a great deal to raise funds for Hope House Children's Hospices.
Hospice
Housekeeping
Keeping our hospices clean and tidy is a big job. Can you help? We ask for a commitment of one morning or afternoon per week.
Gardens
The children and families who use our hospices love to spend time in the extensive gardens. Could you help us to keep them neat and safe? You could help out with general maintenance or ‘adopt’ a bed or area to look after.
What does Hope House offer volunteers?
Induction
Volunteers have a thorough induction to the hospice. This is a chance to learn about what we do and to check that volunteering at Hope House or Ty Gobaith is for you. Unfortunately you may have to wait for the next induction session before you can start volunteering.
Training
All volunteers get basic training at induction. Certain roles have extra specialised training. This might be ‘on the job’ as in the shops or a course for driving the minibus safely.
The Volunteer Team
We aim to hold regular volunteer team get-togethers where you can find out about any new developments at either of the Hospices. Hope House Children's mission statement is:
"Making the most of short and precious lives"
By being a volunteer you can help us to fulfil this mission.
