Take Up Our Charity Challenge!!

Thursday 10 January 2008

THURSDAY JUNE 26th TO SUNDAY JUNE 29th 2008

By popular request and following the success of the Challenge in 1998 I have planned a repeat in 2008. The challenge is to climb the highest peak in the four home countries and Southern Ireland in 48 hours. The satisfaction is to join a limited band of fellow explorers, have a tremendous and near unique experience, and to raise money for charity.

The planned timetable is;

Leave Shrewsbury early evening Thursday 26 June

Climb Snowdon   Thursday 26 June 20.00---22.00

Scafell Pike           Friday 27 June 04.00---08.00

Ben Nevis              Friday 27 June 14.00---18.00

Cairnryan Ferry     Friday 27 June 23.59

Slieve Donard       Saturday 28 June 04.00---07.00

Carrantoohil          Saturday 28 June 16.00---20.00.

Meal in Pub and overnight Camping in Killarney.

Return via Dublin and Holyhead Sunday 29 June arriving Shrewesbury late evening.

There will be “On Board” catering provided so we can minimize delays.

Cost. Based on 40 people taking up the challenge the cost will be £150 per person.

The on board food will be extra and you will be able to buy a memento tee or sweat shirt.

Charity In addition to the above you will be expected to raise sponsorship for Hope House Hospice, the Shropshire Children’s Palliative Care Centre of at least £100 (last time we raised an average of over £300per person).

Safety The timetable is such that all climbs are undertaken substantially in daylight. It is also dictated by the ferry time. There will be a back up minibus for the first three peaks should anyone be unable to continue. You will be required to carry or wear suitable clothing and equipment, I will advise in due course.

Is it for me?  You obviously need to be fit and to be able to run or jog. The time table is not suitable for walkers. A suitable test if you have doubts is to go and climb Snowdon from Pen-y-Pas Café via the Pyg Track and return in about 2hours.

Disclaimer   The trip is to enable you to complete the challenge and climb the five peaks in 48 hours. The climbs will NOT be led by the organizer and you will be responsible for your own navigation and safety I can advise on routes and will suggest participants travel in informal groups

What do I do now?

Complete the form below and send it with a £5.00 deposit and 9*4 SAE to

Alan Morris, Southolme, Rodington Shrewsbury SY4 4QX

(The deposit is to book the ferry which I will have to pay in February. Once this is paid the deposit will not be returned if I am unable to get sufficient challengers)

Assuming I get sufficient interest I will send you a demand for payment of the full £150 by the end of March and pay for and confirm the coach.  Once the coach is paid for this payment will not be returned unless I have reserves!

THERE YOU HAVE IT!  It can be done because we did it before.
