Local foster carer & student make daring sky dive!
Tuesday 17 January 2012Local foster carer & student make daring sky dive in aid of local charity.
Darren Yates, a local foster carer with Family Options and Rebecca Diss, a student at Young Options College in Shifnal faced their fears to complete a sky dive on the 28th October 2011 in aid of the Hope House Children’s Hospice. Darren admitted that “becoming a foster carer was a big leap but not quite as big as this!”
Darren approached Family Options back in Summer 2011 with the idea of completing a sky dive to raise awareness of the fantastic work that foster carers do. “There is a huge shortage of foster carers in the UK, it is an amazing life choice and one that I wanted to raise awareness of. I was also aware of the amazing care that the Hope Hospice provides and wanted to help”
Rebecca Diss, a student at Young Options College heard about the challenge and decided to join in. “I heard about Darren’s sky dive and thought it was a great idea, I’m in care and know how important carers are and what fantastic work they do.”
Many supporters from the Ofsted “Outstanding“ rated college and fostering agency came out on the day to cheer them on, although many admitted to watching with their hands over their eyes. Darren and Rebecca both raised almost £1300 for the charity which is a fantastic achievement. Following a safe landing, a rather windswept Darren commented “what a great opportunity to raise money and be part of an exhilarating day where fostered young people can see that foster carers really know how to have fun. We are very proud to have raised so much money for the Hospice and hopefully we’ve raised some awareness to”.
