Our amazing Elodie has completed her 10-mile hike, raising £2,500, despite her lung and heart conditions which makes walking difficult for her.

Elodie-May Davies, 14, signed up to our Take A Hike event which encouraged people to go out and do a 10-mile walk in their local area, and has raised more than £33,000.

Elodie, who lives with her family in Ruabon, has had heart defects since birth which have led to a cardiac arrest, clots in her lungs and mini strokes. She has been through 10 open heart surgeries, and has a pacemaker fitted.

The doctors recently discovered she has pulmonary vein stenosis, and as a result Elodie has lost her left lung and only has 83 per cent functionality of her right one.

This means she requires oxygen 24-hours-a-day to allow her to breath, making walking a tough task.

But she was determined to complete the 10-miles and has raised £2,500 for her amazing efforts.

“We are so lucky to have Hope House in our lives and I don’t know what we would do without them,” says mum Jenna.

“It’s a wonderful place full of love and Elodie is so happy when she visits. Everyone is so kind and she feels very loved right now.

“Elodie has been really moved by the number of people who have made donations to her page, some of which have never met her, they’ve just been so inspired by her. That’s been the best bit. We are incredibly proud of her.”

Completing her 10th mile in Chirk, Elodie was greeted by our fundraisers and Frankie Williams from the event sponsor Net World Sports, who presented Elodie with her medal and some special gifts for the summer.

“We were so impressed with Elodie’s efforts we just thought she and her siblings would enjoy some games for the garden. So, they now have a giant Jenga set and a giant Connect 4. We hope they have loads fun with them,” said Frankie.

An inspiration

Fundraiser Bekki Fardoe has been supporting the family during their effort.

“They have been an absolute joy to support and Elodie has done so well, it’s incredible what she has achieved. She is a true inspiration,” said Bekki.

If you have been inspired by Elodie, then you can sign up to walk out of lockdown in the Midsummer Walk, where you can take on a virtual 75-mile walk along with hundreds of other Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith supporters.
