6ft banana to take on Olympic-distance triathlon We’re set for a boost thanks to a sporty 6ft banana! On June 14th at the world-famous Slateman Triathlon in Llanberis, Snowdonia, Jack Unwin of Chester will don his fruity attire and take on the 1,900m swim, 92.6km cycle and a 23.1km run. Iconic Environmental Consultant, Jack is no stranger to big sporting challenges and explained how the banana costume idea came about. He shared: “Last year I entered an Ironman triathlon for two other charities. To help raise donations I bought some costumes off eBay and Vinted and went out running around Chester. "The banana became quite iconic. “I reached out to my network and said that if we hit the fundraising target, then I’ll do another triathlon in the banana costume.” Adventure Jack has lived in Chester for six years now and has really taken to Cheshire and North Wales. He said: “I fell in love with Wales and Snowdonia. “It’s such an adventurous place to spend my spare time. “I wanted to help some Welsh charities this time so did some research and selected Hope House Tŷ Gobaith and Welsh Women’s Aid.” Set under the imposing skyline of Pen Y Pass and Yr Wyddfa, the Slateman Triathlon begins with a swim in the chilly Llyn Padarn, transitions to a cycle ride through the National Park where Jack will don the costume, and finally on to a run up and around Dinorwic Slate Quarry. Stand out Fundraiser Nicky Eyes is supporting Jack in his effort and said: “I absolutely love this challenge. “To do the triathlon alone is quite a feat but dressed as a banana?! “Jack will really stand out in the crowd and no doubt cheer up spectators or weary participants. “The fact he has adopted Cheshire and North Wales charities to support is amazing and every penny he raises for us will go straight to supporting local children living with a life-threatening condition.” Sponsor Jack Manage Cookie Preferences
