Work has just started on an extension to our Tŷ Gobaith hospice to create an additional  flexible suite for when children and families come to stay for respite, crisis or end of life care.

The extension, which is expected to be finished by the autumn, will include a large bedroom with a fully accessible bathroom and clinical room. It will link to two existing bedrooms, which will be able to be used by family members.

The project is costing in the region of £550,000 and we are really fortunate to have had this funded through generous donations from a number of supporters including the National Lottery Community Fund, the Albert Gubay Foundation, the Moondance Foundation and Morrisons’ Building a Legacy Fund. The work is being carried out by local family run building company Best Construction. 

Our project manager Polly Roberts explained that the extension had been specially designed to make the most of the stunning estuary views, the natural light and the surrounding gardens.

“We have been working with parents who have helped to shape the project by giving feedback about their own experiences and suggesting ideas for the layout and features,” she said.

“The children’s bedroom is really spacious and includes a comfortable seating area with glass windows across two sides to make the most of the views. There will also be a large, fully accessible bathroom and a separate ‘clinical room’ where staff can prepare medicines and treatments.

“The project has been made possible by the generous donations that we have had and we can’t thank all of the funders, including the National Lottery Community Fund, the Albert Gubay Foundation, the Moondance Foundation and Morrisons’ Building a Legacy Fund enough for their support.
