Cyclist Ken Smith will be taking on the biggest cycling challenge of his life when he sets out to cycle from Oswestry to Rome.

Ken’s challenge came about following his love for beer and pizza and he begins his journey on Thursday 5th May.

He will cycle an average daily distance of 65 miles over 24 days with the longest days involving around 85 miles of peddle power.

He will be staying in Munich for a short break to sample the beers before enjoying pizza in Rome at the end of his challenge.

A great cause

“There’s absolutely nothing award winning about my cycling,” says Ken. “I don’t own a sleek lightweight racing bike, I will be riding my flat handlebar bike, the one I use for shopping, compete with rack, stand, mirror and two large panniers stuffed with everything I need for a month on the road.

"As well as satisfying my own three quarter-life crisis I would love the journey to do some good which is why I am raising monies for Hope House, an incredible local charity.”

Our fundraiser Lynsey said: “We are so grateful to Ken for undertaking this huge challenge.

"More than 80% of the money we need to provide vital care and support comes from incredible people in our local community like Ken, it is no exaggeration to say that we simply wouldn’t be here without them. We wish Ken the best of luck with his challenge."
