Families will be remembering their loved ones and celebrating their lives during our special Memory Mile event this month.

Kevin Hughes and his wife Sally

The family of Keven Hughes, a long-time supporter who sadly died during the pandemic, will join many other families on Friday, September 20th.

Kevin, who was 63 when he died at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, was ever present at many of our events and played a key role in helping to raise thousands of pounds to support seriously ill children.

From black tie balls to golf days and the annual duck race, keen photographer Kevin would be there with his camera to document these marvellous events.

On top of that he also did his own fundraising, including donations in lieu of gifts for his and his wife Sally’s wedding anniversary.

A time to reflect

His son Andy Hughes will be joined on the Memory Mile by Sally, along with his wife, four children and other close friends.

“Dad was really passionate about doing things for Hope House,” said Andy. “He was so passionate about doing anything to support local children whenever he had any time to do so.

“For us as a family, to be able to join an event where we can take some time to reflect, pause and remember dad, all in the name of a cause he cared so passionately about is wonderful. We know that if he were here today he’d be attending the event himself and taking pictures, so it’s really something quite lovely.”

The Memory Mile event is open to anyone who would like to walk and remember their loved ones and will start at the Festival Square Car Park in Oswestry at 6pm and is free to attend.

Join the Memory Mile

Laura Ellis-Bartlett, in memory fundraiser at the charity, said: “This is going to be a very special evening of remembrance. It is open to everybody to join and walk with us in memory of their loved ones.

“I would like to also thank the event sponsors Recycling UK who have helped make this event possible.”
